Clinical Stage
A final impression of your prepared teeth is then taken (a master impression) and sent off to a specialised laboratory. In the meantime temporary veneers (acrylic) will be fitted to the prepared teeth which will have the dimensions of your final smile. This is our second checkpoint where we will double check again that you are happy with the length, colour, shape width etc. Any final adjustments will be made on your temporaries and an impression is taken again another checkpoint and sent to the laboratory.

Questions & Answers
What are the alternatives to porcelain veneers?
The alternatives to porcelain veneers depend on whether you are in search of a different material for your veneers, or a completely different treatment option.
Veneers can be made from composite or porcelain. There are differences with each in terms of price, strength, aesthetic finish and also the longevity.
Outside of veneers, there are various cosmetic treatments that can address aspects of your teeth you may be unhappy with such as the size, shape or colour of your teeth. For instance, composite bonding, implants or teeth whitening.
During your consultation, we can get to know more about you and also your treatment aims. From there, we can suggest alternative options to porcelain veneers so that you can make an informed decision based on what’s right for you.
What are the benefits of porcelain veneers?
Whenever veneers are being considered as an option for a variety of cosmetic dental concerns, longevity is often one of the main reasons. The benefit of porcelain veneers is that they boast the longest lifespan of any veneer type currently available. So long as you look after your veneers, they can last for between 10 and 15 years, if not longer.
Aesthetics is understandably another top concern when getting any kind of cosmetic work done to your teeth. Again, porcelain veneers reign supreme due to their extremely natural looking result. This is made possible due to their thin yet super strong application over the surface of the tooth, which can also enhance comfort over the longer term.
In recent years especially, the trend has moved away from bulky or big looking veneers in favour of achieving a more natural looking tooth shape. Porcelain veneers offer the utmost flexibility to achieve this result, while also looking to combat concerns relating to the size, shape or colour of your teeth.
That said, porcelain veneers remain extremely flexible to the treatment outcome you desire, including whether you are looking for a minimal change or something more noticeable. The level of customisation also extends to the shades we can achieve ranging from a subtle result to a noticeably whiter smile.
When you take care of porcelain veneers, it is also possible to maintain their highly attractive result over the longer term. This is not always the case with other veneer materials which can sometimes lose their vitality over time.
While porcelain veneers are undoubtedly an investment purchase, they do also reflect the very best and also longest lasting technology currently available. Therefore, if you are looking for a treatment that you can enjoy many years of results from, porcelain veneers are ideal.
What are Emax veneers?
Emax veneers are one of the two material options which are used to create porcelain veneers. The reason why we use a combination of either Emax or Zirconia is that it allows us to select the right material based on the location and functional purpose of the tooth.
Specifically, Emax is known for its lustrous finish. As a result, it is the preferred material for visible veneers which are placed towards the front of the mouth.
Not only do Emax veneers offer us the ability to precisely shape your new teeth, but we can also get selective with the colour. So whether you are searching for a subtle or noticeable result, Emax offers a lot of versatility.
If you get Emax veneers, you can also expect excellent longevity especially if you also commit to looking after your veneers.
Do porcelain veneers look natural?
Porcelain veneers are indeed known for providing a natural looking result, especially in terms of their overall shape and size. For this reason, porcelain can provide a more suitable alternative to other types of veneers, especially as porcelain veneers are crafted to precision.
You can also tell us your preferences for the shade of your veneers. Some patients request that the veneers blend with the colour of their existing teeth, whereas others prefer a noticeably whiter shade.
How to make your porcelain veneers last longer
In simple terms, you must be willing to look after your veneers as your level of commitment will ultimately reflect how long they last.
Starting with your oral hygiene, you will need to brush your teeth twice a day with a non-abrasive toothpaste. Daily flossing and the use of an alcohol-free mouthwash will also need to form part of your routine.
We will also need to see you regularly for professional dental cleanings. When you have porcelain veneers, the recommended frequency of cleanings increases from twice a year to up to four times a year. Depending on your oral health, we’ll be able to advise you how many cleanings you will likely need.
You will also need to take steps to avoid damaging your veneers. While veneers are built to last, biting hard objects or using your teeth to open packages should be avoided. If you grind your teeth at night, then you’ll also need to wear a nightguard.
How much do porcelain veneers cost?
The cost of porcelain veneers starts at £725 per tooth. On the whole, porcelain veneers are considered a long term investment, as when properly taken care of they can last for 10 to 15 years on average.
There are various treatment options to explore, whether you are in search of a full set of porcelain composites or just wish to restore a single tooth. During your consultation, we can discuss these options with you in further detail.
How long do porcelain veneers last?
What’s fantastic about porcelain veneers is that they are the longest lasting type of veneers currently available on the market, with a typical lifespan of between 10 and 15 years. However, it is not uncommon to see patients whose porcelain veneers last even longer than this.
How long your porcelain veneers will last very much depends on your level of commitment to taking care of your veneers, and your oral health in general.
Who are porcelain veneers suitable for?
Patients in search of a solution to misshapen teeth, cracked teeth, gaps between teeth or discoloured teeth are often great candidates for porcelain veneers. In particular, where other measures we could perform instead would not achieve the type of result that we can get specifically with porcelain veneers.
Since porcelain veneers can offer a dramatic and also long lasting result, patients who opt for porcelain veneers will also be in search of both of these aspects with regards to their smile transformation.
During your consultation, we’ll determine if you are suitable for porcelain veneers based on your treatment goals and overall oral health.
