Dental Implants
The experience of losing a tooth can be a very stressful time, whether it’s by an injury or decay, missing teeth can often leave you feeling extremely self-conscious about your smile and appearance. But there is a solution and different methods to replace several or a single missing tooth and most of our Liverpool patients, a dental implant is often the best long term solution.
What is a dental implant?
Dental implants offer the most advanced solution currently available in dentistry for replacing missing teeth.
Consisting of a titanium screw that is inserted below the gumline and a crown that is placed on top, a dental implant is designed to replicate the natural structure of the tooth. An implant covers the length of the roots all the way to the visible portion of the tooth above the gumline.
Alongside improving the visual appearance of your teeth, dental implants can also provide various functional benefits to the rest of your teeth. With the proper care, dental implants can last indefinitely.
Replacing the root of the missing tooth, the dental implant provides a secure point to which our Liverpool team can then attach a false tooth. Implants look great and restore the function of your missing tooth, helping to give you back your confidence and smile.
Dental implants are long-lasting and a great solution, in some cases, lasting a life-time. It’s important to look after your implants carefully and maintain good oral health, even though your new implant is not susceptible to decay, plaque can build up around it leading to gum infection if not cleaned routinely.
The benefits of dental implants
Out of all the options that can address a missing tooth, dental implants are widely considered the best choice. That’s because a dental implant offers the closest substitute to the natural tooth, especially in terms of looks and functionality.
When a tooth is missing, it doesn’t just create a visible gap in your smile. Missing teeth can not only make it more difficult to eat or speak, but can also result in bone loss. So while dentures or bridges can solve some issues, only an implant works from the root to the crown to restore every aspect that a missing tooth presents.
Dental implants offer the most advanced solution to address tooth loss, and modern techniques also promote the very best results. For instance, the implant itself which is inserted into the jaw is actually designed to fuse with your own body, while also providing that missing structural support to the rest of your teeth.
In some cases, dental implants can be fitted on the same day which is known as ‘teeth in a day’. This can greatly speed up the time it takes to replace your missing teeth, effectively giving you a brand new set of teeth within just a few hours.
Regardless of how long dental implants in Liverpool take to fit, something that remains consistent for most patients is that with the proper care the implants can potentially last a lifetime. The reason is because dental implants replace the lost structure of the tooth using medical grade materials along with the most advanced dental techniques.
Best of all, dental implants are designed to look like your natural teeth which is important for anyone who is self-conscious about their teeth. Combined with restoring the ability to eat and speak with ease, dental implants can be transformative for your quality of life.

Questions & Answers
Who is eligible for dental implants?
Dental implants are intended for anyone who is missing one or more of their natural teeth. This could be due to previous trauma or decay of the tooth, or even genetic causes.
Reasons why you might be considering dental implants in Liverpool are to restore the look of your teeth, or explore an alternative to dentures or bridges. Since missing teeth can cause issues such as bone loss, poor nutrition and loss of confidence, you might be in search of the best solution to your missing tooth in terms of improving function as well as the look of your smile. An implant requires a minimum amount of bone to secure them in place, similar to the roots of teeth. On occasions where sufficient bone isn't available, new bone needs to be grafted before an implant is placed.
The good news is that most people are ideal candidates for dental implants. Things that would make you suitable include being over the age of 21, having sufficient bone volume in your jaw and also having excellent oral hygiene.
During your initial consultation, we can determine if dental implants offer the best solution for you. If so, we can then move ahead with creating a treatment plan for dental implants and scheduling your next appointment.
In the event you aren’t a good candidate for dental implants, we can run you through the alternative treatment options you may want to explore.
What do they do?
How do I care for dental implants?
Following your implant procedure you will be given aftercare instructions.
You must follow a diligent oral hygiene routine to prevent issues with your implants.
You will need to brush twice daily using non-abrasive toothpaste. Use both toothpaste and floss that are made for dental implants. Be sure to floss with good technique that gets under the gumline. Complete your routine with alcohol-free mouthwash.
Schedule dental hygiene visits and dental checkups based on our recommended timeframes.
Beyond cleaning your teeth, regular contact with your Liverpool dentist is essential to check everything is mechanically sound with the implant itself.
How long do they last?
What is the dental implant procedure?
The process of getting dental implants will be slightly different for everyone. Overall, what’s involved will depend on the type of implants you receive, plus whether other dental work is needed to be able to support your implant.
Typically, the process of getting dental implants will require several appointments.
The first stage of dental implants is the consultation at our clinic in Liverpool, which gives your dentist a chance to examine your teeth and determine if implants offer the right solution for you. If you decide to go ahead, we will then arrange for scans of your teeth to be taken.
Placing the implants will make up the first part of the procedure. This involves inserting a screw into the jaw which will eventually hold the crown. The area will then be left to heal for a few weeks. Sometimes, a temporary solution such as a bridge will be given.
After a few weeks, you’ll return to change the cap on your implant. Further healing will then need to take place before we re-scan your teeth and make plans for your crown.
Your crown will then be fitted. You will then need to return for a review appointment at our Liverpool clinic to check how you are getting on.
How much do dental implants cost?
The cost of dental implants ranges from £2,500 to £16,500. The price of your treatment will depend on the implant type and also the number of implants. Additional fees will also apply if you require other treatments such as bone grafts.
Dental implants are designed to offer a long term solution to tooth loss, and as such have higher costs associated.
